The Australian Ocean Racing season has kicked into full gear in the new year with 6 of the 10 major events being played out this month.

Fenn Cup 3 and The Twist got the year off to a good start waking the very best Aussie ocean paddlers from their Christmas hibernation.
 
Jeremy Cotter continued his domination of local races with a clean sweep in the Fenn events taking out the series from Tim Jacobs and Shannon Eckstein. Hayley Bateup pulled out a big one to knock off Kirsty Holmes for the ladies event with Mel Pelly taking the final place on the dias.

Outlaw #5: The Graham Long Memorial Paddle

This week the national series heads south across the border to Victoria with The Outlaw event on the Great Ocean Road. Making the trip is 2009 SSI World Champ Dawid Mocke who will be up against the like of Tony Schumacher, Mark Anderson and Mark Minchin.

The Doctor Surf Ski World Cup
16 & 17th Jan 2010    

Mocke will join his brother Jasper and a few other “Yarpies” to contest the biggest event on the National Calendar, “The Doctor” the following week. With over $30k in prizemoney the very best from Australian paddling will be in WA to contest the two day event.

Day one features “The Doctor” the purest downwind race on the international calendar with the crossing from Rottnest to Scarborough. Day two see’s paddlers pairing up to contest the 24k Finn Kayaks Coastal Challenge.

‘The Doctor’ is the only double point event on in the national series so a must do for all serious competitors.

King of the Coast, Moolooloba, QLD

King of the Coast, the 9th event in the series rounds out the January run of national events. The first major ocean racing event to be held on the Sunshine Coast in a number of years the KOTC promises to become one of the major national events.

Kirk Jarrott is putting the event together with assistance of a bunch of local paddlers. “We have been trying to get something going here for a number of years and a have finally been able to get it together “said Jarrott”.

Bridge to Beach, NSW
7th March 2010    

March 7 will see the annual Bridge to Beach take place on Sydney Harbour. The biggest ocean paddling event in the country with around 800 paddlers expected to take part this year. This is the final event on the national series and requires pure speed as the top guys eat this course up in just over forty minutes.

The B to B is a spectacle in itself with the Harbour Bridge as the start line and all the other Sydney icons as a backdrop this race attracts every sort of paddlerable craft.
