As January is a busy time for events and other things we have decided to put some useful info together for those planning on doing some of the events.

FYI the current National Ocean Racing Point score is up. These are current up to three events. There are still 7 events to go with Perth (Jan 16-17) worth double points. Remember you can drop your worst 4 events.

Fenn Cup 2/3rd January

Saturday 2nd Jan Fenn Cup 3
Skoda Challenge and under 20s will start at 1pm. This will start and finish either at Fishermans Beach Collaroy or Station Beach Palm Beach (where the last one was) This is dependent on which way the wind is blowing and where the longer race will start.
SUPs and paddleboards will start at 2.pm and Fenn Cup at 3pm. Once again the start will either be Fishermans or Station Beach depending on wind direction.
There will be no presentations after this race. All presentations will be on Sunday at Long Reef from 12.30 onwards immediately after “The Twist”.

Sunday Jan 3 The Twist 9 (Team relay and doubles)

Start 10am from Fishermans Beach.
Course will take you north to Mona Vale Basin for the teams change-over. This will be a portage with change-overs on the beach. Doubles will have to do a small portage.
Second paddlers and doubles will make their way back to Long Reef SLSC. Note that the second leg will be longer than the first.
Important
“The Twist” is called the twist for the that reason. If you are an open paddler you have 6 ways of winning on that particular day. Firstly as a team or on a double, secondly as a mixed team or double and lastly as an under 20 team or double. Only one of the paddlers needs to be under 20.
So 8 open paddlers will win first place points. 2 in the relay , 2 on the double, 1 each from mixed relay and double and 1 each from under 20 relay and double.
So its your chance to earn some solid points by teaming up with another good paddler or an under 20 or female competitor.
We will take entries for this event right up until the start.
Outlaw Jan 9 Vic
This is the Victorian race on the national series. We have organized a trailer to go down. Cost will be $75-$100 for the return trip for your ski. Please let us know early if you are keen to go. We already have a number of skis booked. Please go to the outlaw site to enter.
The Doctor Jan 16 Perth WA
The biggest event on the Australian Ocean Racing calendar. We have just short of $30k in prizemony plus a host of other prizes totally nearly $40k.
Briefing is on Friday night (15th Jan) at City Beach SLSC club from 5.30pm. We will be loading skis for transport to Rottnest on Friday location to be announced. The cost is $15 per ski and we will need your help to get it on. Please book now if you want your ski on the boat contact yanda@oceanpaddler.com
Please note in the case of strong offshore winds predicted for the Saturday and little chance of an afternoon seabreeze the race may go to Rottnest. This will mean an 8am start at City Beach finishing at the Army Jetty Thompson Bay Rottnest. All presentations will be back on the mainland that evening.
Presentations will be at Trigg SLSC on Saturday and Sorrento SLSC on Sunday. Thanks to both of these clubs for their support.
For those in WA we are still searching for skis for some interstate and international competitors. Contact us if you have a ski (of any brand).
